Chi Miigwetch, to all those who voted for me in the May primaries. I look forward to your continued support in the July general election. Congratulations to all the candidates for participating in the first round, and to the voters for making their voices heard loud and strong at the polls. I am asking for your vote once again, and asking for additional consideration from new voters. Election dates are July 17th at the Minneapolis American Indian Center, July 19th at Red Lake reservation polling sites, and at the absentee polling station that is now open at the Red Lake agency located downstairs in the rear entrance of the old BIA building.

I want to thank all the people who support me for staying positive and forward thinking throughout my campaign. It is encouraging to know that our tribal members are wise enough to recognize, and rise above the mudslinging that can be so ugly come election time. When all is said and done, we can feel good about a first class campaign that was done professionally, and with respect to our opponents. This makes me very optimistic about the future for our people. It is a sign that we as a tribe want to continue moving in a direction that will bring back stability, order, opportunity, and cultural pride to the Red Lake Band as a whole.

I feel fortunate to be able to serve on the tribal council over the past two years. I feel very honored to have led the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians in this particular time in our history. In the tradition of our ancestors that includes a long line of great Chiefs, and leaders, I have tried to carry myself in a good way throughout my term. This time around I have valuable experience behind me that will help to move the Red Lake Band forward once again. If elected I pledge to continue to provide leadership grounded in Red Lake traditions. A leadership that is strong, competent, and fair is in order, and I intend to provide that. I will continue to pursue improvements in all of our communities, and strive to make our reservation a safer place to work, live, and play. I will provide a strong voice for our elders, veterans, youth, and urban members. Four more years in office will give me the opportunity to show the people more of the good things that I am capable of accomplishing, and also it will provide the stability in Red Lake tribal government that is required to create jobs, and opportunities for our members.

At this point in our history we are experiencing increased attacks and threats on the Red Lake Band by those who are envious of our status, resources, and sovereignty. Even the ownership of our sacred Lakes is being questioned. As a tribal leader, and a Red Lake member, I will not stand for it, and I apologize to no one for standing up for our reservation. In just two short years, the tribe has re-established itself as a fierce defender of sovereignty, and a powerful voice for the protection of our lakes, and lands. I take the closed status of our tribe, and our ancestors beautiful legacy very seriously. I will continue to prioritize and protect the Red Lake bands sovereignty, and closed status, which is the basis of my political platform.

In closing, I look forward to your continued support, and I encourage all eligible members to vote on Election Day. The power resides with the people who are the final say in what type of direction the tribe will take as we look towards the future of our children, their children, and for generations to come. I also issue a call to all newly eligible voters to partake in an election that directly affects your future. I ask for your support, and encourage you to get out and vote on Election Day.

Chi Miigwetch.

With honor, and respect.
